Gonda: The Paraspar Police, in coordination with the SOG and Surveillance teams, have successfully worked out a chain-snatching case reported in the area and arrested two alleged accused. Police recovered the stolen gold-coloured metal chain, the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime, three mobile phones and an illegal .315-bore country-made pistol along with a live cartridge from their possession.
According to police, the incident took place on September 2, 2026. The complainant, Mamta Singh, wife of Maniprakash Singh and a resident of Jankipuram, Lucknow, had left her maternal home in Chauharja Purwa village, under Madhyaipur Kurmi area of Paraspar police station, for Lucknow along with her around eight-year-old daughter and mother.
As she was experiencing difficulty with her leg, she sought assistance from a motorcyclist travelling towards Paraspar. The man agreed to give the three of them a lift. At around 3:10 pm, when they were near Molhu Purwa village, two unidentified men riding a black-and-red motorcycle allegedly approached from behind and snatched a gold chain weighing approximately one tola from Mamta Singh’s neck before fleeing from the spot.
A case was subsequently registered at Paraspar police station under relevant sections of law.
During the investigation, a joint team of Paraspar Police, SOG and Surveillance personnel was conducting checks in the area. Intensive vehicle checking was underway near the Bhouriganj Road bypass culvert when two men riding a motorcycle were spotted approaching from the Charhua bypass side.
When the police team signalled them to stop, the suspects allegedly turned the motorcycle around and attempted to flee. The police pursued and surrounded them. During the chase, the motorcycle lost balance and fell, following which both suspects allegedly tried to escape on foot. The police team managed to apprehend them after surrounding the area.
During a search, police recovered the stolen chain and a mobile phone from Adesh Singh alias Raj Singh, while Karan Singh alias Antim Singh was allegedly found carrying two mobile phones, an illegal .315-bore country-made pistol and one live .315-bore cartridge.
During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to their involvement in the chain-snatching incident near Molhu Purwa on September 2.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Adesh Singh alias Raj Singh, son of Rakesh Singh, a resident of Vaishan Purwa Paska under Paraspar police station, and Karan Singh alias Antim Singh, son of Kedarnath Singh, also a resident of Vaishan Purwa Paska.
Police said two cases have been registered in connection with the matter: Case Crime No. 405/2026 under Sections 304(2), 317(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Paraspar police station, and Case Crime No. 410/2026 under Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act.
The recoveries include one chain made of yellow-coloured metal allegedly linked to the snatching incident, one motorcycle allegedly used in the crime, three mobile phones, one illegal .315-bore country-made pistol and one live .315-bore cartridge.
Police records show that Karan Singh alias Antim Singh has previously been named in two cases registered in Paraspar in 2024 under Sections 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC. His record also includes the two cases registered in connection with the present investigation in 2026.
Adesh Singh alias Raj Singh has a previous case registered at Paraspar police station under Sections 115(2), 352 and 351(3) of the BNS. He has also been booked in the present chain-snatching case.
The police team involved in the arrests included SOG/SWAT In-charge Inspector Ashutosh Singh, Surveillance In-charge Sub-Inspector Manish Kumar, Paraspar Station House Officer Kamal Shankar Chaturvedi, Sub-Inspectors Aman Kannaujiya and Akashdeep, Head Constable Amit Kumar Mishra, Constables Amit Yadav and Rahul Kumar Patel, and Reserve Constables Satyam Singh, Saroj Maurya and Shailendra Kumar.
